Department of Higher education every year Provides different scholarship for college and university stud tents. National merit Scholarship is one of the most popular Government Scholarship scheme among the students of College and Universities. NMSC was first time introduced in 1961 – 61. It was provided for the talented student who belongs Poor economically background. It was provided from class 11th to post graduation level.
Scholarship for poor and talented students on secondary level is provided by the department of Education and it was first time introduced in 1971-72 for class 6th to class 12th level. Now this Scholarship is merged and new name of this Scholarship is National merit Scholarship and first time it introduced in 2005-2006 this was available from class 9th to post graduation level.
After that government discontinue this scholarship and renamed this scholarship as ‘National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme’
This scholarship will cover students from class 9th to class 12th level students. After that department of Higher Education launched a Fresh Scholarship scheme for the students of College and University. This is central government sponsored scholarship and it’s know as “Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students”. Currently government are distributing rs 1000 crore in this scholarship.
Basic Objective of “Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students”.
Basic aim of “Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students” is provide a Financial assistant for the talented students who belong from lower income family. This Chhatravriti will help students from low income families to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies.
Scholarship Details: this scholarship will be given for Fresh students who will be declared qualified in Intermediate board examination. Total 82000 students of Inter / Class 12th qualified, will get this scholarship. Total 41000 scholarships is reserved for Female or girl Student for the education of Graduation, post graduation level who are studying in College / Universities. Students of professional course like medical, engineering etc will be also eligible for this scheme.
Allocation of the Scholarship: all scholarship will be divided between the state education boards on the basis of state population in the age group of 18-25 years. Ration of scholarship among pass out students of Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams of the State Board in the ratio of 3:2:1.
Eligibility Criteria: all Male, Female students who have more then 80% marks in class 12th Board examination all eligible for this scheme.
Only regular students are eligible for this scheme. Students who are perusing their education through Distance or correspondence mode.
General and Reserved category students are eligible for this scheme.
Reservation policy will be also applicable in this scholarship. At present, reservations for the Various categories are as follows : SC 15 % ST 71/2 % OBC 27 % and horizontally 3 % for Physically Handicapped in all the categories.
Income certificate: Family income of the students must not be more then 4.5 lakh per year. Candidates are not required to submit fresh scholarship every year.
Selection procedures: selection of the eligible candidates be done on the basis of Merit list of Board examination. Merit list will be prepared by the Concerned Education board within the 5 week of the declaration of the intermediates results.
Boards will write to the eligible students from the top of the merit list up to twice the number of scholarships available through a registered letter to confirm Within 15 days whether he/she is prepared to accept the scholarship.
The Boards/Universities in the State/Union Territory will send to each candidate short listed for consideration for award of scholarships the following:
(a) Entitlement Card
(b) Income Affidavit form
(c) A Form for ‘Statement of Particulars’.
After that selected list will be send to National Scholarship Division of MHRD for the transfer of scholarship.
Rate of Scholarship: Students pursuing professional courses would get Rs.2000/- per month in the 4th and 5th year. The scholarship would be paid for 10 months in an academic year.
Rs.1000/- p.m. at Graduation level for first three years
Rs.2000/- per month at Post- Graduation level
Scholarship payment will be started from the month of admission. Scholarship will be transfer for selected students directly from the central government into a bank account of the students.
Scholarship renewal: A scholarship under the scheme is renewable from year to year upto Post Graduate level in the same stream. For all professional courses, scholarship will be renewed till the graduation level of that course. For all the courses the scholarship would be renewed up to a maximum of five years. The renewal will depend on promotion to the next class provided the scholar secures 60% or more marks
